Over 50 Uttarakhandi organizations in Mumbai-Thane region to donate Rs 10-cr for flood relief

Mumbai, June 24, 2013: Over 50 Uttarakhandi social organisations in the Mumbai-Thane region have collectively set a target of Rs 10-crore to be collected from their members and donors for providing financial and other assistance to the thousands of flood-affected victims in Uttarakhand. 

These organisations which met at various locations in Mumbai yesterday (June 23, 2013) expressed its deep sadness over the devastation caused by torrential rain and floods in Uttarakhand in which nearly 5,000 people have lost their lives and tens of thousands displaced. 

Uttaranchal Mahasangh Mumbai, Akhil Bhartiya Uttarakhand Maha Sabha, Garhwal Ekta Samiti, Uttaranchal Mitra Mondal Trust, Shiv Shakti Uattrakhand Seva Mandal and Lok Kalyan Trust, Parwaaz Multifoundation, Uttaranchal Mitra Mandal, Bhayandar and Uttaranchal Mitra Mandal, Mira Road among several others, have requested their members to donate generously and also co-ordinate with other donors to collect funds

Smt Anandi Gairola, President, Uttaranchal Mahasangh said “We offer our prayers and sympathy to the families of those who have lost their lives and those who have suffered injury or loss of property in this natural catastrophe. We have established contact with people in Uttarakhand who are helping people on the ground and our members in Mumbai will raise donations worth about Rs 5 laks for the relief fund, which will be sent to Uttarakhand at the earliest” 
Shri Nain Singh Barthwal, President, Maharashtra Akhil Bhartiya Uttarakhand Maha Sabha said “We plan to raise donations of about Rs 5-10-cr through our members spread across 27 states in the country. Our central leadership has decided to form a team which will personally visit affected families in Uttarakhand and provide financial assistance” 

Uttaranchal Mitra Mandal Vasai organised a special `hawan’ for the departed souls and will be sending Rs 1,00,000 immediately to the Uttarakhand Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Its President Shri Mahindra Singh Dasoni said “We are in the process of collecting more donations which will be sent in due course after assessing the situation” 
Shri Sudhakar Thapliyal, President, Garhwal Ekta Samiti, Thane said he will be visiting Uttarakhand to assess the situation in villages and accordingly provide their help to the local people so that the assistance reaches the affected families, he said” We will be raising about Rs 2-3 lakhs immediately from our members and other donors in Thane-Mumbai Region ”
Uttaranchal Mitra Mandal, Bhayandar and Uttaranchal Mitra Mandal, Mira Road has also started fund collection drive among its members. Shri Dan Singh Mehra, President, Uttranchal Mitra Mandal, Bhayandar told Uttarakhand Unity Post that his team will be raising Rs 1-2 lakhs donations on an urgent basis for Uttarakhand flood relief.

Mumbai, Jan 28 : The five - day - long cultural festival of Uttarakhand ` Kauthig 2013 ’ which was celebrated with gusto in Navi Mumbai, concluded on Sunday with over 12 - thousand Utt a rakhandis participating in the final day events.  The festival held with the aim o f bring ing together the ` Pahari ’ people living in Navi Mumbai and its environs , was held at Nerul’s Ramleela Maidan  from  January 23 to January 27.   The mega event was very well attended, especially by the Uttarakhandi youth.
