Uttarakhand’s popular community fiesta “Kauthig 2015” celebrated with gusto in Navi Mumbai


Navi Mumbai, Jan 27, 2015 : The five-day-long cultural extravaganza  of Uttarakhand `Kauthig 2015’  which was celebrated with gusto in Navi Mumbai, concluded on Monday with nearly 15000-thousand Uttarakhandi Mumbaikars celebrated and rejoiced their cultural fiesta in the final day events.


Three important personalities, KG Kodiyal, Indra Singh Negi, Vasundhra Negi, were chosen and honoured with special “ Samman Patra” for their contribution  and efforts in keeping Uttarakhand’s traditional heritage and traditions alive.



The festival held with the aim of bringing together the `Pahari’ people living in Navi Mumbai and its environs, was held at Nerul’s Ramleela Maidan from January 22 to January 26.  The mega event was very well attended, especially by the Uttarakhandi youth. Several personalities from different walks of life belonging to Uttarakhand and Maharashtra graced the inaugural function that was attended by over 60,000 people. 


It was a star-studded event with several bigwigs from different industries gracing their presence. Hockey player Ranjan Negi, actress Madhurima Tuli, Bollywood singer Mona Bhat, former Miss Universe and actress Urvashi Rautela, Actor and producer Twisha Bhatt, model Aukriti Gusain, Himani Shivpuri, actor Hemant Pandey, Brizendra Kala,Manda Mahtre (MLA) Ganesh Godhiyal (MLA) Mr. Mohan Kala ( MD Sharon Pharmaceutical )  Mr Madhavnand Bhatt ( MD Anmol Developer) Mr Rajan Negi, Mr DB Chand ( MD Global Vision NGO Cancer free India) Mr K S Panwar ( MD Polygon ), Mr Jagdish Sawant  MD(Lavina Pharmaceutical) Mr Pankaj Mathpal ( Optima Money ) Mr Nandkishor Notiyal , Mrs Kamla Badoni Mr Suresh Rana ( Trident Logistics ) Mrs Saila Rani Rawat ( MLA)Mr Deepak Devrani Mrs Sonia Anand  Ms Mona Bhatt  (Singer) Mr Suraj Patil ( Corporator, Nerul ) Mr Amit ( Corporator Turbhe ), Mrs Vijayapant Tuli, Sr. Police Inspector mrs Sangita Sinde,  Ashok Gawade, Bahadur Singh Bist , Mahdeep Singh Bist Mr Rajendra Joshi, Mukesh Kakshyal, Bhuvnesh Bhati, Hira singh Bhakuni, Jagdish Samant,  among several others.


Over 200 artists well-versed in traditional dance and music thrilled the audience with variety of performances, pulsating dance sequences and dramas using traditional pahadi instruments like Dor-Thakuli, Dhol-damau, Ransinga, Bhankor, Mochhang, Conch, Bell and Flute, among others.  Uttarakhand’s famous singers including Devendra Chauhan, Jitendra Singh Tomkhyal, Pappu Karaki, Prahlad, Janardhan Upreti, Prakash Rawat, Rekha Uniyal, Reshma Shah, Veeru Joshi,  Vinod Shirola , Govind Digari, Khushi Digari,,  Anuradha Nirala, Jyothi Upreti  also presented the folk music along with their groups.


Shri Yogeshwar Sharma, President, Kauthik Foundation said “Organised by the Kauthig Foundation, this was the eighth year of the festival which brings different aspects of Uttarakhand’s unique culture. This year the theme was ‘Palayan’ where we highlighted the fact that people who migrate from our state must not forget the connect they have with their homeland Uttarakhand. I am happy that we were able to rekindle that connect and urged people to keep Devbhumi’s unique traditions alive   and also visit Uttarakhand at least once a year.  ‘Janmabhoomi Uttarakhand Karmabhoomi Maharashtra’ was the message we focused on throughout the five days of the festival”
