Uttarakhand’s popular cultural fiesta“Kauthig 2015” in full swing in Navi Mumbai

Navi Mumbai, Jan 24, 2015- : Rich in culture and diversity, land of Gods 'Uttarakhand', has brought its flavours, culture and tradition for the city of dreams. The cultural festival of Uttarakhand "Kauthig 2015" is spreading festive cheer in the city from 22rd January to 26th January.


The festival promises to showcase not only the unique cultural nuances of Uttarakhand but also a health camp and enrolment for employment and matrimonial registrations and while on display are Uttarakhandi handicrafts, products and traditional foods among others.  

On the second day on Jan 23 a cancer detection camp was held with the help of Global Vision (NGO for Cancer free India) supported by other foundations such as Chand Parivar Foundation, Abhi Foundation and Young Star.
A financial planning seminar in association with OptimaMoney will be be organised on January 24 and 25 to give people insights on managing money.  Also Health Camp by Terna Hospital & career guidance seminar by ITM Group of Institute (supported by Chand Parivar Foundation, Abhi Foundation, Young Star and Niyati Ek Prayas)  will be organised on Jan 26, 2015.
Sr. Police Inspector Mrs Sangita Shinde who is charge of Nerul Police Station, was felicitated by Kauthig Foundation. Hailing the efforts of the organisers she said “ Its great pleasure to be part this  amazing and  unique cultural festival of Uttarakhand, this is a very interesting and well organised function, I feel like I am in Uttarakhand”

Young Bollywood actress and producer Twisha Bhatt said “  It is always a pleasure attending KAUTHIG which is held with all the fan fare in Mumbai.  have a very special attachment with Kauthig, as I personally feel with every passing year we both are growing bigger and being recognised together. It's a homely feeling away from our motherland. The organising team has been breaking records and creating new milestones every year. I truly appreciate and respect the hardwork put in by the entire Team Kauthig, it's your hardwork that we stay grounded to our roots and get acquainted to our fellow pahadis to whom we might not have not known in our busy lives”

Over 200 artists who have come from the state known for its rich culture are slated to perform the pulsating dance sequences and dramas using traditional pahadi instruments like Dor-Thakuli, Dhol-damau, Ransinga, Bhankor, Mochhang, Conch, Bell and Flute, among others in the next four days.

Uttarakhand’s famous singers including Govind Digari, Khushi Digari,, Pappu Karaki, Prahlad, Janardhan Upreti, Prakash Rawat, Rekha Uniyal, Reshma Shah, Veeru Joshi,  Vinod Shirola , Anuradha Nirala, Jyothi Upreti  will present the folk music along with their groups.

Shri Yogeshwar Sharma, President, Kauthik Foundation said “Organised by the Kauthig Foundation, this is the eighth year of the festival, a melting pot of different aspects of the state’s unique culture. Hence, the name ‘Kauthig’ that stands for fair or mela. We always have a theme for the design of our stage and this year it is ‘Palayan’. We want to highlight the fact that people who migrate from our state, forget the connect they have with their homeland. The aim is to rekindle that connect and urge people to visit Uttarakhand at least once a year.  ‘Janmabhoomi Uttarakhand Karmabhoomi Maharashtra’ is the message we are focusing on throughout the five days of the festival”

Over 200 artists well-versed in traditional dance and music have been invited for the event for a variety of performances. Agriculture that is a major occupation in Uttarakhand, apart from tourism and stalls to sell and promote the products that are a speciality of the state have also been put up.   Products like bhatta, gauth, kakawadi, madva, chuck and sweets like misri and balmithai  are on sale, apart from the traditional garment pichoda.

The five-day-long cultural festival of Uttarakhand `Kauthig 2015’ began with festive cheer  at Nerul’s Ramleela Maidan  in Navi Mumbai on Thursday January 22, 2014. Mr Harak Singh Rawat, Agriculture Minister, Govt. Of Uttarakhand inaugurate d this mega festival that is going into its 8th year of showcasing unique Uttarakhandi traditions, customs, music, dance and traditional folklore in Navi Mumbai.

The cultural festival that brings together over 10 lakh Uttarakhandi Mumbaikers living in Navi Mumbai and its environ, began with Ma Nanda Devi Traditional  Raaj Jaat,Jhanki (Tableau) from Nanda Devi Temple in Belapur and  travelled through many places in the city. The special performances by “Challiya  group, the renowned artists  from Pithoragrah  continued to be the main attraction of this unique spectacle this year.  The inaugural function was followed by  Traditional Aarti of Godess Nanada and performances by Uttarakhandi renowned artists including Urvashi Rautela.

Several personalities from different walks of life belonging to Uttarakhand and Maharashtra graced the inaugural function that was attended by over 5000 people including youth. It is a star-studded event with several bigwigs from different industries gracing their presence. Hockey player Ranjan Negi, ad guru and writer Prasoon Joshi, actress Madhurima Tuli, Bollywood singer Mona Bhat, former Miss Universe and actress Urvashi Rautela, model Aukriti Gusain, among others are some of the personalities who will be attending the event.
