Uttarakhand’s colourful community festival “Kauthig 2015” to be inaugurated by Mr Harak Singh Rawat, Agriculture Minister, Govt. Of Uttarakhand in Navi Mumbai on Jan 22, 2015

The five-day-long cultural festival of Uttarakhand `Kauthig 2015’ will be held at Nerul’s Ramleela Maidan  in Navi Mumbai from Thursday January 22 to January Monday 26, 2015 from 6pm to 10pm. Mr Harak Singh Rawat, Agriculture Minister, Govt. Of Uttarakhand will inaugurate (on Jan 22, 2015 at 5pm) this mega festival that is going into its 8th year of showcasing unique Uttarakhandi traditions and customs, music, dance performances and traditional folklore to Navi Mumbai.


The festival will begin (3pm) with Ma Nanda Devi Traditional  Raaj Jaat,Jhanki (Tableau) from Nanda Devi Temple in Belapur and will travel through many places in the city. The special performances by “Challiya  group, the renowned artists  from Pithoragrah will continue to be the main attraction of this unique spectacle.  The Raaj Jaat,Jhanki will reach Nerul Gaon Devi at 5pm. 

The inaugural function will be followed by performances by Uttarakhandi renowned artists  Over 200 artists who have come from the state known for its rich culture will perform the pulsating dance sequences and dramas using traditional pahadi instruments like Dor-Thakuli, Dhol-damau, Ransinga, Bhankor, Mochhang, Conch, Bell and Flute, among others.

Uttarakhand’s famous singers including Govind Digari, Khushi Digari,, Pappu Karaki, Prahlad, Janardhan Upreti, Prakash Rawat, Rekha Uniyal, Reshma Shah, Veeru Joshi,  Vinod Shirola , Anuradha Nirala, Jyothi Upreti  will present the folk music along with their groups.

The festival promises to showcase not only the unique cultural nuances of Uttarakhand but also a health camp and enrolment for employment and matrimonial registrations and while on display will be Uttarakhandi handicrafts, products and traditional foods among others.  The Cancer Detection Camp on 23rd Jan 2015 at 10 am will be organised by Global Vision –(NGO for Cancer free India). Also on Jan 24th & 25th   Financial Planning camp by OptimaMoney and Health Camp by Terna Hospital and Career Guidance Camp by ITM Group of Institute will be organised on Jan 26, 2015.

More than 30 prominent personalities from different walks of life belonging to the northern hill state and Maharashtra will grace the festival that aims to bring together the `Pahari’ people live in Navi Mumbai and its environs. The event is expected to be attended by over 50,000 people, especially by the Uttarakhandi youth.

Mir Ranjan Negi(Former Indian Hockey Player, Goalkeepers of Movie Chakde India fame)  is the Brand Ambassador of the festival.  The other guests of honor who will be attending include Shri Durga Pal, Cabinet Minister,Govt, of Uttarakhand,  Shri Mohan Kala (Business Man), Madhavnand Bhatt (Film Producer), and renowned Uttrakhandi actors such as Shri Sudhir Pandey, Shri Hemant Pandey, Ms Madhuriam Tuli, Ms Twishaa Bhatt Sandhu and Mr Chandan Shekhar Tiwari among others.

It is the largest community festival of Uttarakhand which has been successfully bringing the pahari youth in Mumbai closer to their culture and roots. Being away from our homeland, many of our youngsters now a day’s do not know much about Pahari tradition and community.  This festival every year tries to bridge this gap and encourages them to appreciate their pahari art, culture and customs”
