Uttarakhand’s Largest Community Festival “Kauthig 2014” begins in Navi Mumbai on Jan 22

Mumbai, Jan 21 :The five-day-long cultural festival of Uttarakhand `Kauthig 2014’ will be held at Nerul’s Ramleela Maidan  in Navi Mumbai from January 22 to January 26, 2014 from 6pm to 10pm. Over 30 prominent personalities from different walks of life belonging to the northern hill state and Maharashtra will grace the festival that aims to bring together the `Pahari’ people living in Navi Mumbai and its environs. The mega event that is expected to be attended by over 50,000 people, especially by the Uttarakhandi youth, will begin at 4.pm with Ma Nanda Devi Traditional Raaj Jaat Jhanki (Tableau) from Nerul Gaon Devi and will travel through many places in the city. The special performances by “Challiya  group, the renowned artists  from Pithoragrah will be the main attraction of this unique spectacle.


The festival that introduces Mumbaites to the folklore and traditions of Uttarakhand, will be inaugurated at 5pm by guest of honor Shri Harak Singh Rawat, Agriculture Minister of Uttarakhand. The other guests of honor who will be attending include Shri Mohan Kala (Business Man), Madhavnand Bhatt (Film Producer), Shri Manik Rao Thakre, Shri Ganesh Naik, MLA, Belapur, including  renowned Uttrakhandi actors such as Shri Sudhir Pandey, Shri Hemant Pandey, Ms Madhuriam Tuli, Ms Twishaa Bhatt Sandhu and Mr Chandan Shekhar Tiwari among others.


The inaugural function will be followed by performances by Uttarakhandi renowned artists including Hemant Butola and Prakash Rawat’ from the cultural department of Uttarakhand Govt.  Over 100 artists who have come from the state known for its rich culture will perform the pulsating dance sequences and dramas using traditional pahadi instruments like Dor-Thakuli, Dhol-damau, Ransinga, Bhankor, Mochhang, Conch, Bell and Flute, among others.

Uttarakhand’s famous singers including Govind Digari, Khushi Digari,, Pappu Karaki, Prahlad, Janardhan Upreti, Prakash Rawat, Rekha Uniyal, Reshma Shah, Veeru Joshi,  Vinod Shirola , Anuradha Nirala, Jyothi Upreti  will present the folk music along with their groups.

Shri Yogeshwar Sharma, President, Kauthik Foundation said, “Kauthig is the largest community festival of Uttarakhand which tries to bring the pahari youth in Mumbai closer to their culture and roots. Being away from our homeland, many of our youngsters now a days do not know much about Pahari tradition and community.  This festival aims to bridge the gap and encourages them to appreciate their pahari art, culture and customs”
